TIP 1: QUANTITIES
One of the best ways to save money in the long term is to order larger quantities. There are 3 good reasons for this;
1. the setup fees are static, and therefore split between the number of pieces you order. The more prints, the smaller the amount of setup per print.
2. the printing prices get cheaper with larger quantities.
3. in the case of tshirts, the wholesaler charges an extra $.50 per garment when you order fewer than 6 of any style, size and colour. In the case of American Apparel, that cost jumps to $2 per garment.
TIP 2: ART PREPARATION
The art file is the most important factor, in any printing.
Reduce unnecessary charges from us by designing with the following in mind;
If you plan to have it screenprinted then there are specific requirements. Before you go about creating the art, you need to know that EACH COLOUR IN THE ART NEEDS TO BE ON ITS OWN LAYER and ultimately in 100% black. If you or a friend is able to prepare the art in this way, it will save you some money. Please read the artwork specifications for screenprint page for details.
If you prefer we are happy to do file prep work for you including cleanup, colour separation, vectorizing, resizing and layout. The rate is $60/ hour with a 1/2 hour minimum. Advance file prep for tricky images will be sub-contracted out, at the industry rate of $80/ hour.
TIP 3: KEEP IT SIMPLE
It's easy to get carried away as a designer. Although some projects definitely deserve to be complex, reducing the number of colours in your print can dramatically reduce the production cost. There is the $20 setup fee per colour, and the print price goes up accordingly as you add more colours to the art. This is even more apparent when you are ordering a small run.
TIP 4: no RUSH jobs
Be organized, and get in touch EARLY. There is nothing worse than having to pay a rush fee, and doing a rush job is a terrible thing to force on a very busy someone whose prime concern is quality.
That said....sometimes it's impossible to avoid, and we will do everything we can to fulfill your needs. just ask :]
Please engage us with your questions, send us a jpeg of your art for reference so we can quote properly, or make an appointment to come by for a consultation.
